OL98: Exchange Server and Mailbox Fail to Resolve in ProfileID: Q197348
|
When using a computer with either Windows NT 4.0 Workstation or Windows NT
Server 4.0 with Microsoft Outlook to connect to a Microsoft Exchange
Server, you are repeatedly unable to resolve the server name or mailbox
name in the Exchange service properties of your mail profile.
Alternately, Outlook may appear to stop responding (hang) before resolving
the items. If the resolution does eventually occur, mail performance within
Outlook may be slow. Tests of network connectivity verify that the
workstation is able to otherwise communicate with the server.
The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator service on the Windows NT Workstation or NT Server computer is set to automatically start when the operating system initializes.
Set the RPC Locator Service to start manually. To do this, follow these
steps:
With the RPC Locator service set to automatically start, Windows NT will fail to establish the connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server, regardless of whether you configure the service from within Outlook or from the Mail icon in Control Panel.
