OL98: New Calendar Has Bold Days with No Appointments

ID: Q180179

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

If you delete the primary Calendar folder from the Microsoft Exchange Server, Outlook creates a new Calendar folder. The new folder does not contain appointments from the old folder but the small calendar displayed in Day/Week/Month view still shows bolded days for the old appointments.

CAUSE

Deleting the Calendar folder from the server does not reset the free/busy information in Outlook.

RESOLUTION

Run Outlook with the /CleanFreeBusy command-line startup switch.

NOTE: The font settings for the Date Navigator may also cause the appointments to appear bolded. To check these settings:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. On the Other tab, click Advanced Options.

  3. In the Appearance Options section, click Font, ensure that the Font Style is not Bold, and then click OK three times to close the Options dialog boxes.

MORE INFORMATION

To clear free/busy time that does not represent a Calendar item, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

  1. Quit Outlook.

  2. On the Windows desktop, right-click the Outlook icon.

  3. On the shortcut menu, click Properties.

  4. On the Shortcut tab, type a space followed by
    /cleanfreebusy
in the Target box or Command Line box. If the last character in the path line is a quotation mark, be sure to type the space and switch outside the quotation mark.

  5. Click OK, then restart Outlook.

Be sure to remove the command-line switch from the shortcut.

Method 2

  1. Quit Outlook.

  2. Click Start, and click Run.

  3. In the Open box, type:
    Outlook /cleanfreebusy
There is a space character between Outlook and the forward slash (/).

  4. Click OK.

NOTE: The advantage of this method is that you do not have to go back and remove the command-line switch from the path of the shortcut.
