OL98: Sending HTML Word Document Displays Garbage TextID: Q182741
|
Messages received in Microsoft Outlook 98 have nonsense text at the top of
the message.
-or-
Opening an attached HTML document displays nonsense text at the top of the
message.
Microsoft Word sent the document in a format that was not represented correctly by the file name extension.
There are two workarounds for this issue. One is a Sender side adjustment that requires a change to the default Save format, and the other is a Recipient side adjustment requiring a file name extension change.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 98 and Microsoft Word 97. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
When you use the Send To feature in Word to send a document to an e-mail
recipient, after you have saved the document in HTML format, Word will
ignore the fact that it is HTML and will instead send the document in the
default Save format.
For example, if the default Save format is Word Document(*.doc), the
result will be an attached Word document with a .htm file extension.
There are two ways to avoid this problem; change the default
Save format in word to HTML, or save the attached
document to the desktop and change the file extension to .doc. The
document can then be opened by Word.
