SUMMARY
This article provides specific information concerning setup and
interoperability issues you may encounter with Microsoft Outlook.
MORE INFORMATION
This article includes the following topics:
- Cannot perform Run from Network Server setup
- Local setup fails with Office 97 Run from Network Server present
- Office SR-1 Patch does not complete successfully
- Microsoft Money Online Banking fix included
- Field Mapping feature not available
Cannot Perform Run from Network Server Setup
You attempt to perform a server installation of Outlook and find that
the /a command-line switch is not recognized. You receive the error message:
Command line option syntax error. Type command/? for help.
The resulting Help does not list the /a switch.
Because Outlook uses new setup technology and shares dependencies with
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, you cannot use Outlook in a Run from
Server (RNS) configuration. Outlook cannot be installed to run from CD-ROM for the same reasons. Support for an RNS installation is available in Outlook 2000.
Local Setup Fails with Office 97 Run from Network Server Present
You are currently running Microsoft Office 97 programs in a RNS
configuration. You attempt to install Outlook to a local drive and receive
a warning stating that Outlook does not support that mode. All Office 97
programs must be installed locally to allow Outlook to be installed.
Microsoft has published a white paper that describes some tested procedures
for installing Outlook 98 in mixed-mode where Office 97 is installed in Run
from Server mode.
For additional information, please see the following article in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: If you use Microsoft Project 98, it must also be installed locally.
Office SR-1 Patch Does Not Complete Successfully
If you install Outlook on a computer that has Office 97 installed and then
attempt to run the Office 97 Service Release 1 patch, the patch will not
complete successfully. When updating the Office installation, the patch
looks for specific versions of the key Office files, Mso97.dll and
Mso7enu.dll. Since Outlook Setup installs updated version of these two
files, the patch assumes that an update has already occurred and quits.

Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft Money Online Banking Fix Included
Internet Explorer 4.0 included a version of the file
Schannel.dll, which caused problems with Money online banking transactions.
Outlook installs an updated version of Schannel.dll that corrects these
problems. The updated file is only available for use with the 128-bit
security version of Outlook.
Field Mapping Feature Not Available
The field mapping functionality is licensed from DataViz, Inc. This
functionality is not available in Outlook. Techniques for manually mapping
fields in Outlook during import are available. Although this feature was not available initially in Outlook, Microsoft has posted a patch which adds this functionality.
For additional information on adding filed mapping to Outlook, please see
the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
