OL98: Using MAPI IMAP Servers

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate or Workgroup" if you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation.

SUMMARY

Microsoft does not supply a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) service to allow Outlook in Corporate/Workgroup mode, to access e-mail on an Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP4) Internet mail server. This article describes a third-party solution which will provide this functionality.

Rialto IMAP MAPI Service Provider is a MAPI service for IMAP4 connectivity available from Control Data Corporation (CDC). The following information is from the CDC Web site:

IMAPSP enables IMAP server mail folder access with Microsoft (R) Windows clients. Also included is a MAPI SMTP Transport Provider to facilitate "sending" e-mail messages, and an Exchange Client Extension (ISTORX) to add commands and dialogs to the client interface.

NOTE: There is also a 16-bit version of this product for Outlook 97 on Windows 3.1.
