PPT2000: Cannot Create Link to HTML Document
ID: Q226602
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft PowerPoint 2000
SYMPTOMS
If you attempt to create a link to an inserted HTML document, you will receive the following error message:
It isn't possible to create a link to path\filename.htm
Where path is the folder and file path to the document and filename, is the name of the HTML document.
CAUSE
PowerPoint can only create OLE based links to documents that have a valid OLE server. Because there is no OLE server for the HTML file type, it is not possible to create a link to an HTML file.
WORKAROUND
Create a Hyperlink
This is the preferred method of linking to an HTML document.
- Select the text or object you want to represent the hyperlink.
- On the Insert menu, click Hyperlink.
- Use one of the following steps:
- To link to an existing file or Web page, under Link To, click Existing File or Web Page.
- To link to a file that you have not created, under Link To, click Create New Document.
- Do one of the following:
- If you clicked Existing File or Web Page in step 3, locate and select the file you want to link to.
- If you clicked Create New Document in step 3, type a name for the new file. You can also specify the path to the new file, and choose whether you want to open the new file for editing now or later.
- To assign a tip to be displayed when the mouse pointer is over the hyperlink, click Screen Tip, and type the text you want.
If you do not specify a tip, the path or URL of the file is used.
- Click OK.
