SUMMARY

This article describes how to set object defaults in Microsoft PowerPoint. You can set the default for pictures, AutoShapes, or Text objects.

MORE INFORMATION

To change the default settings for an AutoShape, follow these steps:

  1. Select an object.

  2. On the Format menu, click AutoShape. (To change the default settings for a Text object, click Text Box.)

NOTE: Depending on the type of object you have selected, you may see a different option under the Format menu, such as Picture or WordArt.

  3. Click the Color And Lines tab, and make the changes you want.

  4. Click Default For New Objects, and then click OK.

New objects will now follow the new style.

If you have text in an object, you can save the text style as a default. Select the text, click Font on the Format menu, and then click to select the Default for new objects check box.

NOTE: This procedure changes the default styles for the active presentation only. You can make this change apply to all new presentations by opening up a new presentation, changing the object defaults, and saving the presentation as Blank Presentation.pot in the following folder:
<Windows>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
Or, if you have User Profiles enabled in Windows 98, or you are running on Windows NT:
<Windows>\Profiles\<Username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
This is where the presentation templates are stored by default. The changes will be specific to the user specified in <Username>.
