PPT2000: Navigation to Multiple Copies of the Same Slide in a Custom Show Doesn't Work Correctly

SYMPTOMS

When you have more than one copy of the same slide in a custom slideshow and try to navigate to it using one of the following methods, the presentation takes you to the wrong index position with in the custom show:

You Type in the number of one of the slide's instances and press Enter.

You use the keyboard to go backward once or twice then forward again.

You use the By Slide Title or Slide Navigator choices from the Go menu.

CAUSE

The PowerPoint Custom Show tool identifies slides by their SlideID, which is insufficient to identify a slide completely. Because of this, the wrong occurrence of the slide in the custom show can be selected.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
