PPT2000: Shapes and Pictures Do Not Appear on Slide Web Page When Viewed With IE4

SYMPTOMS

When you view a presentation that has been saved as a web page in Internet Explorer 4.x, you will not see any shapes, pictures, or other objects. Only the text is displayed.


CAUSE

This problem can be caused when the Rely on VML for displaying graphics in browsers option is selected in the Web Options dialog box. When you select to rely on Vector Markup Language (VML) for your display in a Web browser, this will make direct use of Vector Graphics Rendering (VGX) engine to draw shapes and display pictures faster and with more fidelity.

However, the version of VML with Office 2000 is not compatible with Internet Explorer 4.0, only with Internet Explorer 5.0 and later. When this option is used, the web slides will appear blank and only have text on them.


WORKAROUND

When you publish to the Web and you want to make the presentation as compatible as possible for as many Web browsers as possible, you will want to try the following steps:
