PPT2000: Undo Command Deletes Drag And Drop Object

ID: Q212515

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

If you drag an object out of one presentation into another, and then click Undo Move Object on the Edit menu, the object disappears from the destination presentation, but does not reappear in the original one.

CAUSE

If you drag an object from one presentation to another in PowerPoint, you are performing two different operations. One operation removes the object from its original presentation, the other adds the object to the new presentation.

When you click Undo Move Object on the Edit menu, you are undoing only the second action.

RESOLUTION

Switch to the original presentation and click Undo Clear on the Edit menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

You encounter a similar symptom if you drag an object from one slide to another within the same presentation. The difference in this case is that the order of the two operations is reversed; the first operation adds the object to the destination slide and the second operation removes it from the original slide. To completely undo this operation, click Undo Clear on the Edit menu, and then click Undo Move Object on the Edit menu.

To drag an object from one slide to another within the same presentation, follow these steps:

  1. Click New Window on the Window menu.

  2. In the new window, change to a different slide.

  3. Arrange the two windows so that you can see them both.

Now you can drag objects from one slide to another.
