SYMPTOMS

If you apply Shadow Effect 17 or Shadow Effect 18 to a bitmap image or import a PowerPoint for the Macintosh version 4.0 presentation containing an embossed image, the image may appear or be printed in gray.

In addition, if you apply Shadow Effect 17 or Shadow Effect 18 to the following AutoShapes

   Can
   Cube
   Bevel
   Folder Corner
   Smiley Face

you may experience odd behavior. For example, the line color may be losts and you will have to reset it.

Similar behavior may also occur in other Microsoft Office programs, including the following:

CAUSE

Because PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition does not have an embossing feature for objects, the embossing effects will be converted to the shadow styles that are available in PowerPoint 4.0. These shadow styles are similar, but not equivalent, to the embossing feature in PowerPoint 4.0. As a result, the shadow styles handle the effects differently for objects.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
