When you type a single quotation mark (or apostrophe), in Microsoft PowerPoint, leading and trailing spaces are inserted before and after the apostrophe. This behavior occurs when you are using the French language dictionaries.
To enter a quotation mark without any leading or trailing spaces, create an AutoCorrect entry for the opening and closing quotation marks in PowerPoint, by following these steps:
1. Create a new presentation.
a. On the File menu, click New.
b. Click the General tab.
c. In the New Presentation dialog box, click Blank Presentation and
then click OK.
d. In the New Slide dialog box, select the default AutoLayout option
and click OK.
2. Click the title box and type a single quotation mark (').
3. Select the single quotation mark and click Copy on the Edit menu.
4. Create the AutoCorrect entry, by following these steps:
a. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect.
b. In the Replace box, type a left brace ({).
NOTE: You can use another character if you want, but you should
choose a character that you don't use regularly.
c. Click in the With box and then press CTRL+V.
The quotation mark will appear in the With box.
d. Click OK.
5. Click the title box and type a single quotation mark (').
6. Select the single quotation mark and click Copy on the Edit menu.
7. Create the AutoCorrect entry, by following these steps:
a. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect.
b. In the Replace box, type a right brace ({).
NOTE: You can use another character if you want, but you should
choose a character that you don't use regularly.
c. Click in the With box and then press CTRL+V.
The quotation mark will appear in the With box.
d. Click OK.
When you type the left or right brace, PowerPoint will automatically
replace the brace with the appropriate quotation mark.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
