SUMMARY

The presentation conferencing feature of Microsoft PowerPoint requires the Client for Microsoft Networks to be installed, in addition to TCP/IP. Presentation conferencing requires the client to be able to resolve the TCP/IP addresses to the NetBIOS names.

In Windows, presentation conferencing allows a user on one computer to show a slide show on other computers connected over a local area network (LAN) or over the Internet.

The Microsoft Office Resource Kit (ORK) incorrectly states that you must only have the TCP/IP protocol installed and file sharing enabled to run a presentation conference from Microsoft PowerPoint. In fact, file sharing is not required at all. Below are the correct requirements for PowerPoint Presentation Conferencing:

PowerPoint 97 or PowerPoint 95 and (if needed) a 97 to 95 converter Users with only the PowerPoint Viewer or an earlier version of PowerPoint cannot participate in the conference.
Windows 95 or Windows NT operating system PowerPoint for the Macintosh does not support presentation conferencing.
