PPT97: Setup Error 258 Installing the Custom Soundtrack Add-in

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install the PowerPoint Custom Soundtrack Add-in from the Microsoft Office 97 Valupack, you may recieve the following error message:

Setup Error 258

Object 1 Your setup files may be damaged. Try restarting the setup program.


CAUSE

This problem is caused by the setup program. If PowerPoint and Windows are on different drives, the setup program will fail. There is no resolution or workaround to this problem.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
