PPT97: Unable to Spell Check after Changing Language of Default Dictionary

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to change the spelling dictonary in PowerPoint from English (U.S.) or English (United Kingdom) to any other English dictionary and perform a spell check, you will recieve the following error message:

PowerPoint can't load the main spelling dictionary. You should run Setup and reinstall.


CAUSE

PowerPoint templates contain language settings that you cannot override by using the default language of the spelling dictionary.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
