SYMPTOMS
The following symptoms occur when you have installed the EZ-Photo add-in:
- When you attempt to quit Word, you receive a prompt asking to save a file called EZPHOTO.
- At the prompt, whether you click Yes or No, a duplicate button captioned EZP is added to your menu bar. These buttons continue to duplicate each time you quit Word.
- At the prompt, if you click Cancel, Word does not close. However, you can then close Word normally.
- When you click any of the EZP toolbar buttons installed by the EZ-Photo add-in, the following error message appears:
Microsoft Word Err=1220, "Word cannot find or run the application."
CAUSE
The Word add-ins installed by EZ-Photo version 2.7 and earlier were
designed to work with Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0, and
earlier.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, you can use the following steps to turn off EZ-Photo functionality:
Remove EZPhoto.dot and any EZPhoto.wll files from the Startup folder.
Word can automatically load templates and WLLs (Word
libraries) at startup. These files give Word added functionality.
To prevent an add-in from loading in Word at startup, do the following:
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the File Locations tab, click to select Startup in the File types list.
- Click Modify to view the complete path.
- Write this path down and then click Cancel.
- Click Close.
- Quit all instances of Word, including WordMail.
- Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, go to the Office Startup folder. If the following default path differs from the path you wrote down in step 4, go to the path you wrote down.
<drive>:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
- Click to drag the EZPhoto.dot and any EZPhoto.wll files to another location, such as your desktop.
Rename the Word default template Normal.dot.
After you rename the Normal.dot file, Word rebuilds another one automatically.
NOTE: Renaming the Normal.dot template will reset several options back to their default settings, including custom styles, custom toolbars, macros, and AutoText entries. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that you rename the Normal.dot file rather than delete it.
Certain installations may yield more than one legitimate Normal.dot file.
These situations include multiple versions of Word running on the same computer or several workstation installations on the same computer. In these situations, pay special attention so that you rename the correct copy of Normal.dot.
To rename the Normal.dot template, do the following:
- Close all applications.
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- In Named, type Normal.dot.
- If you want to specify the location to start the search, click Browse.
- Click to select the Include subfolders check box.
- Click Find Now.
- Click to select Normal.dot.
- On the File menu, click Rename.
- Rename Normal.dot to Normal.old.
- On the File menu, click Close.
NOTE: Macros, AutoText entries, shortcut key combinations, custom toolbars, toolbar settings, and styles are stored in the Normal template.
After renaming the Normal template, you can copy macros, AutoText entries, shortcut key combinations, custom toolbars, toolbar settings, and styles to your new Normal template.
WARNING: Do not copy any macros whose functionality and purpose are unknown.
- In Word, on the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-Ins.
- Click Organizer, and then click the tab for the items you want to copy.
- To copy items to or from a different template or file, click Close File to close the active document and its attached template or to close the Normal template.
- Click Open File to open the Normal template you renamed to Normal.old earlier in this article.
- Click the items you want to copy in either list, and then click Copy.
To select a range of items, hold down SHIFT and click the first and last items. To select nonadjacent items, hold down CTRL as you click each item.
NOTE: If you copy toolbars to which you've assigned custom macros, you must also copy the macros.
