WD2000: Auto Macros Fail to Run with WordMail and HTML Editor Enabled

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Word document or a Microsoft Outlook WordMail message, Word auto macros fail to run as expected.


CAUSE

Case 1: Editing a document in Word

The above symptom occurs when you are editing a document in Word and the following are true:

Case 2: Editing a WordMail document in Microsoft Outlook.

The above symptom occurs when the Microsoft Outlook Mail Format option Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages is turned on.
For Case 2, this behavior is by design. Auto macros will not run while you are editing a WordMail message in Outlook.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:

NOTE: The following methods apply to Case 1 only.

Method 1: Turn off Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages

To turn off using Word as your e-mail editor:

  1. In Microsoft Outlook 2000, on the Tools menu, click Options.


  2. On the Mail Format tab, click to clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box.


Method 2: Do not use HTML as your e-mail message format

To use a different e-mail message format:

  1. In Microsoft Outlook 2000, on the Tools menu, click Options.


  2. On the Mail Format tab, select a different format from the Send in this message format list box.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
