- Brother HL630
- Brother HL640

printer drivers, 870CSE

- Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5P, using the HPPCL5MS printer driver version
G.1.20
- Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 6MP
- Hewlett-Packard OfficeJet SERIES
- NEC SilentWriter II model 90 PostScript printer, using the Windows 95
printer driver
CAUSE
There are three possible causes of this problem:
- You are using a Windows 3.1 or old printer driver.
-or-
- The registry key that contains Word settings is corrupted.
-or-
- The printer you are using does not support printing multiple copies.
NOTE:
When Word is set to print multiple copies, it queries the driver to
determine whether the printer itself supports printing multiple copies,
this being much faster than sending multiple copies of the job.
If the answer is affirmative, Word instructs the printer to "print this N times". If not, Word sends the whole print job N times instead. (Applications such as WordPad do not query the driver and send the
job N times, regardless.) What appears to be happening when the
setting to print multiple copies fails, is that Word is getting a
bogus answer from the driver, so that Word sends "print this N
times" when in fact the printer doesn't support multiple copies.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use the appropriate method for your situation.
Method 1: Upgrade to the Current Printer Driver for the Version of Windows You Are Using
Use either of the following methods.
Method 2: Clear the Background Printing Option
To clear the background printing option, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Print tab.
- Click to clear the Background Printing check box.
- Click OK.

and click Properties.
- Click the Graphics tab.
- Under Graphics mode, select Use Raster Graphics, click Apply, and

Method 5: Add an Extra Page to Your Document

the printing of multiple copies. To do this in Word, follow these
steps:
- Press CTRL+END to go to the bottom of the document.
- On the Insert menu, click Break.
- Under Insert, select Page Break, and then click OK.
Method 6: Upgrade Third-Party Printer Drivers
If you are using a third-party printer driver, contact the
printer driver vendor to see whether they have an updated printer driver. If
they do, upgrade to that driver.
