Direct Mail Manager is a supplemental product available on disc 2 of the Microsoft Office 2000 Premium, Microsoft Office 2000 Professional, and Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business CD-ROMs.

Direct Mail Manager is a program that can interact with Word 2000 or Publisher 2000 to help you create mail-merged documents. Direct Mail Manager can verify your address list (data source) for possible errors by connecting to an Internet site (ZIP-Station), and it can also supply Word with templates and wizards used to create mail merge main documents.

How to Install Direct Mail Manager

To install Direct Mail Manager, follow these steps:
  1. Place disc 2 of the Microsoft Office 2000 Premium, Microsoft Office 2000 Professional, or Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.


  2. In the root of the CD-ROM, double-click Setup.exe.


  3. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Add or Remove Features.


  4. Expand Microsoft Office by clicking the plus sign (+) to the left of Microsoft Office.


  5. Expand Microsoft Small Business Tools.


  6. Click the Microsoft Direct Mail Manager icon, and then click Run from My Computer.


  7. Click Update Now to complete the installation.


NOTE: The default installation folder on your hard disk drive for Direct Mail Manager is
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\SBT\DMM

NOTES:

Emdaz32.dll is the Dial-A-ZIP engine that is used by Direct Mail Manager. It handles all the communication with the ZIP-Station (both address verification and message transfer for status data).

Emlcns32.dll is the Envelope Manager licensing DLL and is required for Emdaz32.dll to operate. The version being distributed with DMM is pre-configured for single-user access.

Registry Keys

Upon installation, Direct Mail Manager creates a shortcut on the Start menu located in the Microsoft Office Small Business Tools folder, and the following Windows registry entries:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Direct Mail Manager
After you first run Direct Mail Manager, the following registry key is also created:
