WD2000: Inserted Motion Clip May Not Play in Web Page Preview

SYMPTOMS

After you insert a Motion Clip (animated GIF) into a Word document and preview the document in a Web browser (on the File menu, click Web Page Preview), the Motion Clip may not play.

CAUSE

The Motion Clip may have been inserted as an embedded object. To view whether the Motion Clip was inserted as an embedded object, press ALT+F9 to turn on field codes. If the following field code is displayed

{EMBED MS_ClipArt_Gallery.5}

in place of the Motion Clip, the Motion Clip was inserted as an embedded object. The following steps may have been used to insert the Motion Clip as an embedded object:

On the Insert menu, click Object.

On the Create New tab, click to select Microsoft Clip Gallery and then click OK.

On the Motion Clips tab, right-click to select the motion clip you want and then click Insert on the shortcut menu.

NOTE: When a Motion Clip is inserted as an embedded object, the Motion Clip becomes a static ClipArt picture and does not play in a Web browser.

WORKAROUND

To insert a Motion Clip in a Word document that will play when viewed in a Web browser, do the following steps:

On the Insert menu, point to Picture and click ClipArt.

On the Motion Clips tab, click the category you want and then click to select the Motion Clip you want.

Right-click the Motion Clip you want and click Insert on the shortcut menu to insert the clip.

NOTE: To preview a Motion Clip to see how it will play in your Web browser, do one of the following:

Double-click the Motion Clip to open Microsoft Clip Gallery. Right-click the Motion Clip and click Clip Properties on the shortcut menu. On the Description tab, click Play.

In your Word document, click Web Page Preview on the File menu.
