WD2000: Known Printing Problems with Envelopes

The information in this article applies to:


SYMPTOMS

When you print to an envelope, Word may not print in the correct orientation, print entirely on the envelope, or print on the correct side of the envelope. Also, it may print upside down (180-degree rotation).

These problems are known to occur with the following printers:

These problems may be experienced when you use the envelope feature (on the Tools menu, click Envelopes and Labels), or when you use the Envelope Wizard (on the File menu, click New; on the Letters & Faxes tab, click Envelope Wizard).


CAUSE

The feed method in Microsoft Word is incorrectly set for your printer.


WORKAROUND

To change the feed method, use the following steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Envelopes and Labels.


  2. On the Envelopes tab, click Options.


  3. On the Printing Options tab, change the Feed method to the correct orientation and position, based on the information included with your printer, and then click OK.

    NOTE: Most printers pictorially indicate how an envelope is to be inserted on the printer. Word should be set to match this pictorial illustration. If your printer does not pictorially indicate how to insert an envelope, refer to the user's manual included with your printer.
