WD2000: Language Box on Custom Toolbar Causes Illegal Operation in Word 97

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word 97 for Windows, after you open a Word 2000 document containing a custom toolbar with the Language box, when you click to drop down the Language box, the following error message may appear:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

When you click Details, the following error message appears:

WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in module WINWORD.EXE at 015f:3038f28a

NOTE: This error message seems to only occur when no other documents are open in Word. If another document is open, an error message may not appear, but when you click to drop down the Language box, incorrect entries may be displayed instead of different language selections.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
