WD2000: Text Box & Drawing Object Borders May Not Appear in Word Picture Object

SYMPTOMS

After you create and close a Word picture object (on the Insert menu, click Object; on the Create New tab, click Microsoft Word Picture), the borders of some of the text boxes or drawing objects contained in the picture object may not appear.


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods appropriate for your situation.

Method 1: Group Your Picture Object

Group your picture object using the following steps:
  1. Click to select your picture object.


  2. On the Edit menu, point to Picture Object and click Open.


  3. On the Drawing toolbar, click Select Objects.

    NOTE: To show the Drawing toolbar, on the View menu, point to Toolbars and click Drawing.


  4. Starting in the upper left corner of your picture object, click and drag a dashed box around your picture object. When you release the mouse, each item in your picture object will be selected.


  5. Place your mouse point over any of the selected objects. The mouse pointer will change to a four-headed arrow icon.


  6. Right-click the selected object.


  7. On the short-cut menu, point to Grouping and click Group.


  8. On the Edit Picture toolbar, click Close Picture.


Method 2: Use a Different Picture Editor

To see what applications are available on your system as a picture editor in Word, use the following steps:
  1. In Word, click Options on the Tools menu.


  2. On the Edit tab, click the down arrow in the Picture editor box. Applications listed in the Picture editor box are available to edit pictures when you right-click the picture and then click Edit Picture.
