SYMPTOMS

After you open a Word document created on Windows CE, when you make changes to the document, click in the document several times, or save the document as a Word document, Word may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This problem seems to occur only when the file created in Word on the Windows CE platform contains either a bulleted list or a numbered list.

WORKAROUND

After you open a Word document that was created on Windows CE, immediately save the file as Rich Text Format (RTF). After the file has been saved as RTF, close and reopen the RTF document.

To save the file as Rich Text Format (RTF), use the following steps:

  1. Open the file created in Windows CE.

  2. On the File menu, click Save As.

  3. Change the Save as type box to Rich Text Format (*.rtf), and then click Save.

NOTE: You may also want to save the file with a different file name.

  4. Close and reopen the document you saved in step 3.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
