CG 5.0: FAQ: Supported Versions of Clip Gallery 5.0

SUMMARY

Microsoft Clip Gallery is a common component that is used by many Microsoft products. During the installation of a product that ships with Microsoft Clip Gallery, Clip Gallery is automatically upgraded to any newer version .

NOTE: The only support available for BETA versions of Microsoft Clip Gallery is through the Office 2000 BETA newsgroups. Information on accessing the Newsgroups is available on pages 8 and 9 in the Getting Started Manual which accompanied the Office 2000 BETA software.

You can determine the version of Clip Gallery 5 the customer is using. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Find, and click Files or Folders.


  2. In the Named field type ARTGALRY.EXE, and click Find Now.


  3. From the Version tab, you can determine which version the customer is using.


You can then check the File Version against the following information:

SUPPORTED VERSIONS:
5.0.11.0717 - Released with Home Publishing 99, Greetings 99, and related SKUs.
5.0.20.0810 - Released with PhotoDraw 2000 and related SKUs (non-Japan)
5.1.00.1221 - Release with Microsoft Office 2000 and related SKUs.

The version numbers on all the CAG 5.0 binaries (cag.exe, artgalry.exe, medcat.dll, mcps.dll, mcansi.dll, artgalry.dll, qryctrl.dll) should match each other, and come from the previous list. Any mismatched versions will cause Clip Gallery to stop functioning.

The ONLY exception to the matching version numbers is:
picstore.dll is always version 2.2 (copyright 1995).
This file wasn't changed in the version 5 timeframe.

UNSUPPORTED VERSIONS:
5.0.03.0422 - Beta with Office 2000 Beta 1 which was sent out in May/June 1998
5.0.20.0922 - Released with PhotoDraw 2000 in Japan only
5.1.00.1109 - Beta with Office 2000 Beta 2 and Office Beta 2 Refresh sent out in November/December 1998
