IC: Piserver.dll not Registered Error at End of Setup
ID: Q189060
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Image Composer, version 1.5
SYMPTOMS
When you reach the end of the Microsoft Image Composer Setup program,
you may receive this error message
Piserver.dll was unable to register in the system registry.
followed by another message indicating that setup was not completed
successfully.
Although you received the message indicating that setup was not completed
successfully, you are still able to run Image Composer because the Setup
program was able to install all of the files necessary to run it. The
failure of Setup to complete resulted in the Image Composer program group
and icons not being created and Image Composer not being set up as the
default editor for GIF and JPEG files in Microsoft FrontPage.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the registry has become corrupted. The
Piserver.dll file is needed only to open MIX files, which are created
by Microsoft PictureIt!
WORKAROUND
Although you can run Image Composer because Setup was able to install all
of the files needed to run it, you may want to create a shortcut on the
desktop for Image Composer. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Windows
Explorer.
- Open the \Program Files\Microsoft Image Composer folder.
NOTE: If you installed Image Composer in a folder other than the default
folder, select that folder.
- Find the Imgcomp.exe file.
- Using the right mouse button, drag the Imgcomp.exe file to the Desktop
folder. Release the mouse button and then click Create Shortcut(s) Here
on the menu that appears.
You can also set up Image Composer as the default editor for GIF and JPEG files
in Microsoft FrontPage. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start FrontPage Explorer.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Configure Editors tab.
- Under Type, click GIF and then click Modify.
- In the Modify Editor Association dialog box, perform the following:
- In the Editor Name box, type Image Composer.
- In the Command box, type the path to the Imgcomp.exe file or click
Browse to locate the file.
- Click OK.
- Under Type, click JPEG and then click Modify.
- Repeat step 5.
Now you will be able to run Image Composer directly from FrontPage Editor.
