When you use Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications to start Microsoft Project 98 from another program, you may receive either of the following error messages:
This program has performed an illegal operation
and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
When you click Details, you receive the following message:
WINPROJ caused an invalid page fault in
module WINPROJ.EXE at <address>
An application error has occurred
and an application error log is being generated.
WINPROJ.EXE
Exception: access violation <number>, Address: <address>.
This problem may occur when you start Microsoft Project 98 from a Visual Basic for Applications macro, and Microsoft Project 98 generates an error message while it is opening.
NOTE: The errors that cause this behavior are generally system error messages rather than messages that occur when opening a project.
To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows Service Release 1 (SR-1).
To temporarily work around this behavior if you do not have SR-1, follow these steps:
1. Start Microsoft Project 98.
2. Note the error that is displayed.
3. Correct the issue that is causing the error.
4. When the error no longer occurs you can start Microsoft Project 98
from another program without crashing.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
For additional information about obtaining and installing SR-1, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
