ACC1x: Datasheet Form Saved as Subreport Causes GP Fault

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

A report containing a subreport created from a form causes a general protection (GP) fault in Microsoft Windows if the DefaultView property of the original form is set to Datasheet.

The following error message appears after you choose Print Preview or Print from the File menu:

MSACCESS caused a General Protection Fault in module MSACCESS.EXE at 006A:0A26


RESOLUTION

You can use a form as a subreport by embedding it directly in the main report. You do not need to choose the Save As Report menu option. A form with its DefaultView property set to Datasheet does not cause a GP fault when it is embedded in a report. The following steps demonstrate how to do this:

  1. Open the sample database NWIND.MDB.


  2. Create a new report.


  3. Drag the Categories Subform form from the Database window to the main report.

    -or-


  4. Open the original form in Design view.


  5. Change the DefaultView property to either Single Form or Continuous Forms.


  6. From the File menu, choose Save As Report.


  7. Embed the new form in your report.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access version 1.0. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Access version 1.1.

Steps to Reproduce Problem


  1. Open the sample database NWIND.MDB.


  2. Open the Categories Subform form in Design view.


  3. From the File menu, choose Save As Report.


  4. Create a new report based on the Categories table.

    NOTE: The GP fault only occurs if the main report is bound.


  5. Drag the Categories Subform report that you created in step 3 to the main report that you created in step 4.


  6. Preview the report.
