WD98: Int'l Characters Do Not Convert from WordBasic Macros

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Word for Windows template that has WordBasic macros containing text with certain international characters, the international characters translate as boxes when displayed in a message or dialog box.

This article assumes that you are familiar with the programming language being demonstrated and the tools used to create and debug procedures. To work around this problem, manually convert all WordBasic commands to their Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications equivalents. For example, change the following statement:

   WordBasic.Msgbox "<Sample Text>"

to:

   Msgbox "<Sample Text>"

For more information about Visual Basic equivalents for WordBasic commands, click the Office Assistant in the Visual Basic Editor, type "wordbasic," click Search, and then click to view "Visual Basic Equivalents for WordBasic Commands."
