The information in this article applies to:
In Microsoft Excel 97, when you close a workbook, all of your menu bars and toolbars may flash (they disappear and then quickly reappear) when you close a workbook.
This will occur if you used the Menu Editor in either Microsoft Excel version 5.0 or 7.0 to add custom menu items to the workbook.
This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel.
Even though your menu bars and toolbars disappear and then reappear when such a workbook is closed, custom menu items and custom toolbar buttons created by macros in Microsoft Excel 97 should not be affected.
Because of the way in which Microsoft Excel 97 works with custom menu items, when you close a workbook that contains custom menu items created by the Menu Editor in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 or 7.0, Microsoft Excel 97 redraws all of your visible menu bars and toolbars.
This is purely a visual effect: no custom menu items or custom toolbar buttons are lost from your menus when this happens. However, there is no way to suppress the flashing of the menu bars and toolbars. Using
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
to try to suppress the flashing of menu bars and toolbars will not work.
