SUMMARY
Microsoft ADO for Windows CE SDK Beta 2 (ADOCE 2.0 Beta) had a time limit
that expired on September 30, 1998. To add database programmability to
your application written Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 5.0 and Windows CE Toolkit for Visual Basic 6.0,
you can now use Microsoft ADO for Windows CE SDK (ADOCE 2.0).
MORE INFORMATION
The Microsoft ADO for Windows CE SDK provides the following features:
- ADOCE v2.0 - an ActiveX control that provides advanced database
programmability for VBCE and VCCE programmers developing for Windows CE
2.0-based handheld PC devices.
- Desktop filters that enable transfer of Microsoft Access and Microsoft
SQL Server tables to a handheld PC running Windows CE 2.0.
- Documentation and sample code for Visual Basic and Visual C++.
- Links to documentation and code samples under a Start menu group
"Microsoft ADOCE 2.0."
This control is a lightweight version of the ADOCE control released in beta
form, and excludes table synchronization.
Microsoft has released the complete version of the ADOCE control as
part of the Windows CE 2.11 operating system release, which includes additional features such as Access MDB synchronization, SQL Server Table
synchronization, and an expanded name space. Microsoft provided the beta
release of the complete version of ADOCE to provide a preview and to help
you get started with ADO, enabling developers to program database
functionality in advance of a performance-optimized release.
At this point, the control has been tested with VBCE. Although it should
work with Windows CE toolkit for Visual C++ (VCCE), it has not been
thoroughly tested and you have to use the control with VCCE at your own
risk.
