The information in this article applies to:
When running the 16-bit version of Visual Basic 4.0 under Windows 95 or Windows 98, a General Protection fault may be generated on entering the Menu Editor inside the design environment. This is caused by an interaction between Visual Basic and the IntelliPoint mouse driver, version 1.1.
The GPF has been noted at address 001c:000018d4 in module User.exe but may occur at other addresses with different system configurations. No similar problems have been noted using applications generated with Visual Basic 4.0 16-bit edition on systems with the IntelliPoint software installed. The problem is confined to the design environment.
Microsoft has confirmed this as a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This will be updated as more information becomes available.
Uninstall the IntelliPoint mouse software and upgrade to version 2.0 or later.
