BUG: Error Message "Unable to Move Global.asa" is Returned

SYMPTOMS

When you try to move the Global.asa file to a subfolder of your Web project in Offline mode, the following error occurs:

Message box:

Unable to move 'global.asa'. This operation requires connection to the server.


CAUSE

This is misleading because when the users actually go back online and tries this operation, they're going to get this message box:

You cannot move the Global.asa file. It must exist in the root directory of your Web.


RESOLUTION

Set your working mode to Online before moving the Global.asa.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Make sure that your project has a Global.asa.


  2. Set your working mode to Offline.


  3. Attempt to drag your Global.asa to a subfolder of your Web project.
