PRB: Uninstalling Outlook 98 Removes DAO from System

SYMPTOMS

After you uninstall Outlook 98, your applications that use DAO fail to run. Also, the following error message appears in Visual Basic before it terminates:

Can't Find file DAO350.dll

CAUSE

Outlook 98 improperly installs and uninstalls DAO when it is installed during a full install. The uninstall automatically unregisters the DAO350.dll and DAO is no longer available to the system.

RESOLUTION

Do one of the following to work around this problem:

• Re-install the DAO application that is no longer working.



• If DAO350.DLL exists in the following directory:
  

  
  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO 

  
  then select Run from the Start menu and type the following:




Regsvr32 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\DAO350.DLL


This re-registers DAO.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in Outlook 98.
