Blank Error Message Installing Puzzle Collection

SYMPTOMS

When you are installing Puzzle Collection from the Interactive CD Sampler link on the page that opens when you install the Windows 98 CD-ROM, you may receive an error message that consists of only an "X" in a red circle.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Windows is set to use only 16 colors.


RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, choose a color palette of more than 16 colors:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click Display.


  3. Click the Settings tab.


  4. In the Colors box, click 256 Colors (or a higher setting).


  5. Click OK. If you are prompted to restart your computer, do so.
