Cannot Remove DirectX 6.0 Upgrade from Windows 98ID: Q193719
|
After you install the Microsoft DirectX 6.0 upgrade, you cannot remove DirectX 6.0 and revert to the earlier version of DirectX included with Windows 98.
The DirectX 6.0 upgrade for Windows 98 is an update to the operating system itself; it is not an add-on component. The upgrade cannot be removed.
To revert to the earlier version of DirectX included with Windows 98, you must reinstall Windows 98 from MS-DOS.
This behavior is by design.
Note that there is a software entry labeled "DirectX Drivers" on the Install/Uninstall tab in the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel. Uninstalling this item does not uninstall DirectX 6.0.
