Cannot Resume Monitor Turned Off By Advanced Power Management

The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMS
If your monitor is turned off by Advanced Power Management (APM), you may
be unable to resume it.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions exists:
- The 3D Maze screen saver (3D Maze.scr) is currently running.
- Your display resolution is set to 800x600 or higher.
- You are using a Matrox MGA Impression Lite, Plus, Plus 220, or Ultima
video adapter and driver.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, follow the steps in the appropriate section
below:
3D Maze Screen Saver
Change your screen saver to something other than the 3D Maze screen saver.
To do so, follow these steps:
- Press a key or move your mouse to disable the screen saver.
NOTE: If you are using a screen saver password, type the password, and
then press ENTER.
- Press CTRL + ESC to open the Start menu.
- Press U to shut down Windows 98.
- Press S to shut down Windows 98.
- Press ENTER to restart your computer.
- In Windows 98, change your screen saver. For information about how to
do so, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type "screen"
(without quotation marks), and then double-click the "Screen Savers"
topic.
800x600 Display Resolution
Change your display resolution to something other than 800x600. To do so,
follow these steps:
- Press CTRL + ESC to open the Start menu.
- Press U to shut down Windows 98.
- Press S to shut down Windows 98.
- Press ENTER to restart your computer.
- In Windows 98, change your display resolution. For information about
how to do so, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type
display, and then double-click the
"Resolution" topic.
Matrox MGA Impression Lite, Plus, or Plus 220 Video Adapter and Driver
Contact Matrox to inquire about the availability of updated drivers.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 98.
