Cannot Save JPEG Files with Picture It! Express or PaintID: Q193354
|
When you use Microsoft Picture It! Express or Microsoft Paint to save an
image as a Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) file, the file may not
be saved. The program may appear to save the file, but it may not be
listed in the folder in which you chose to save it. Also, when you attempt
to open a JPEG file in Paint, you may receive the following error message:
Paint
<path><filename>.jpg
Paint cannot read this file.
This is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported.
This behavior can occur if the JPEG graphics filter is missing or damaged, or if the registry entries for the JPEG graphics filter are missing or damaged.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry
Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys
And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and
Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics
in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit
it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency
Repair Disk (ERD).
To resolve this issue, remove Picture It! Express, rename the JPEG
graphics filter, remove the JPEG graphics filter registry entries, and
then reinstall Picture It! Express. To do so, use the following steps:
