Cannot Use CabView Tool to View Contents of Cabinet FilesID: Q197144
|
When you attempt to view the contents of a cabinet (.cab) file using the
CabView tool included with Windows 98 and the Windows 95 version of
Microsoft PowerToys, you may experience the following symptoms:
This behavior can occur if WinZip 7.0 is installed on your computer.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry
Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys
And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and
Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics
in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit
it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency
Repair Disk (ERD).
To resolve this behavior change the default string value to
"CLSID\{0CD7A5C0-9F37-11CE-AE65-08002B2E1262}" (without quotation marks)
in the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.cab
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0CD7A5C0-9F37-11CE-AE65-08002B2E1262}\
shell\open\command
Changing one or both of the registry keys enables you to use both CabView
and WinZip to view the contents of .cab files.
After you modify the registry, you can view the contents of .cab files in
the following ways:
