Computer Hibernates When Standby Is PressedID: Q190715
|
On a computer that conforms to the Advanced Configuration and Power
Interface (ACPI) specification, if you select the Standby action for the
power button on the Advanced tab of the Power Management tool in Control
Panel, and you press the power button, the computer may hibernate instead
of standing by.
Likewise, if you select Standby as the action taken when the lid of the
portable computer is closed, the computer may hibernate instead of
standing by when the lid is closed.
In addition, if you click Start, click Shut Down, and then click Stand By,
the computer may hibernate instead of standing by.
This behavior can occur on ACPI-compliant computers if the Enable Hibernation Support option is enabled on the Hibernate tab in the Power Management tool in Control Panel. Under this configuration, Windows 98 causes the computer to hibernate instead of standing by when you press the power button.

The Hibernate tab appears in Power Management properties only if the computer is configured to support hibernation. To determine whether your computer supports hibernation and how to enable that support, please consult your computer's documentation or manufacturer.
