Description of the Microsoft IPRIP Listener Tool for Windows 98ID: Q194464
|
This article describes the Microsoft Internet Protocol Routing Information Protocol (IPRIP) Listener tool for Windows 98.
Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is a routable
network protocol supported by Windows 98. If Internet Protocol (IP)
cannot find a computer on the local segment of its network (and it has no
information about the location of the other computer), it forwards the
remote IP address to the default gateway for IP address resolution.
The IPRIP Listener tool for Windows 98 is designed to provide information
about the location of computers located on other subnetworks. IPRIP
Listener reads Routing Information Protocol (RIP) packets sent by RIP
version 1.0 routers to build a host-level route table. This table is used
to forward IP packets to the subnetwork or remote host.
