Desktop Wallpaper Changes Colors When You Click a Desktop Icon

SYMPTOMS
When you click an icon on the desktop, your screen may flash and your
desktop wallpaper may change colors.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions exist:
- You are using the Clouds.bmp file as your desktop wallpaper.
- You are using a color depth of 256 colors or lower.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
Method 1
Set the color depth to high or true color. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Display.
- Click the Settings tab.
- In the Colors box, click High Color (16 Bit) or a higher color, and
then click OK.
- If you are prompted to restart your computer or apply the new settings
without restarting your computer, click "Apply the new color settings
without restarting," and then click OK.
Method 2
Use a different desktop wallpaper. To change your desktop wallpaper,
follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Display.
- On the Background tab, click the desktop wallpaper you want, and then
click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with Microsoft Windows 95 and
Microsoft Windows 98.
