DFS Service Is Not Removed on Upgrade to Windows 98ID: Q188196

After you upgrade a Windows 95-based computer on which the Distributed
File System (DFS) client is installed to Windows 98, the DFS service may
still be listed on the Configuration tab in Network properties. If you
remove the DFS client in Network properties, you may experience the
following symptoms:
Your network is not complete. Do you want to continue?
In Windows 95, you must install the DFS service separately to gain access to DFS shared. In Windows 98, this service is included in the Microsoft Client for Microsoft Networks. No separate service is required. However, Windows 98 Setup only updates the DFS components; it does not remove the separate DFS client.
If you have removed the DFS service, follow these steps:
The DFS service is used to gain access to DFS shares on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and later servers.
