When you attempt to download a compressed UNIX file with a .tar or .gz file
extension, you may receive the following Virtual Reality Modeling Language
(VRML) Console error message instead of the File Download dialog box:

This issue can occur when the Microsoft VRML 2.0 Viewer is installed on your computer. The VRML 2.0 Viewer creates a file association for .tar and .gz files. When you select a file with an extension of .tar or .gz, the VRML 2.0 Viewer attempts to open and run the file. Compressed Unix files cannot be opened by the VRML 2.0 Viewer. When the VRML 2.0 Viewer attempts to open a compressed Unix file, the console error message occurs.
To resolve this issue, uninstall the VRML 2.0 viewer. To do so, use the
