SYMPTOMS

After you uninstall Windows 98 Second Edition, you may receive the following error message when you try to visit the Microsoft Windows Update Web site:

Explorer caused an exception c0010000h in module Msjava.dll

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (VM) is damaged.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, install a new copy of the Java VM from the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/java/

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
