Err Msg: Invalid VxD Dynamic Link Call From BANCOM (01)+

SYMPTOMS

When you restart your computer after you remove all networking components, you may receive the following error message:

Invalid VxD dynamic link call from BANCOM(01) + 000169B0 to device "0028", service 800A.
Your Windows configuration is invalid. Run the Windows Setup program again to correct this problem.

To continue running Windows press Y or ENTER. To quit the current program press N. If you continue running Windows, your system may become unstable. Do you want to continue?

Press Y for Yes or N for No. Y

If you press Y, your computer may either restart or stop responding (hang), requiring a reset or power down, and then your computer may start in Safe mode. If you press N, you may receive the following error message:
While initializing device BANCOM:

Invalid VxD dynamic link call to device 28, service E8 service 74 for Windows 98

Your Windows configuration is invalid. Run the Windows Setup program again to correct this problem.

Press any key to continue...

When you press a key, the Shut Down screen appears, or your computer may shut down.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you remove all networking components in Network properties. When you do this, the Banyan Vines protocol may still be installed, even though it is not listed in Network properties.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Restart your computer. For Windows 95, when you see the "Starting Windows 95" message, press the F8 key, and then choose Safe Mode from the Startup menu. For Windows 98, press and hold down the CTRL key after your computer completes the Power On Self Test (POST), and then choose Safe Mode from the Startup menu.   2. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double- click Network.


  3. Click Add, and then click Client.


  4. Click Add, click Have Disk, and then type the path to the Banyan Vines client files.


  5. Click the network adapter that is installed in your computer.

    NOTE: You may be prompted to install the network adapter up to three times, and you may not be able to access your CD-ROM drive in Safe mode. When you are prompted for files during installation, click Skip.


  6. Restart the computer when you are prompted.


  7. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double- click Network.


  8. Click Yes when you receive the following prompt:

    Your network is not complete. Do you want to continue?


  9. Click Add, click Client, click Add, and then click Have Disk.


  10. Type the path to the Banyan Vines client files.


  11. Click OK. When you are prompted, restart the computer.


  12. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double- click Network.


  13. Click the Banyan Vines client for Windows 95, and then click Remove. When you are prompted to confirm the removal, click Yes.


  14. Click the Banyan Vines protocol for Windows 95, and then click Remove.


  15. Click OK. When you are prompted, restart the computer.
