Err Msg: Warning: Your License for This Pre-Release Software Has Expired

SYMPTOMS

When you start Windows 98, you may receive the following error message:

Warning: Your license for this pre-release software has expired. Please upgrade to the final product immediately. This pre-release version of Windows 98 will expire on April 1st 2001. After that date you will no longer be able to use this software.

CAUSE

This error message occurs if you are running a Beta version of Windows 98, and the expiration date for the Beta version you are running is set for November 15, 1998.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, install the released version of Windows 98.
