Error Message Installing Sierra Software

SYMPTOMS

When you are installing Phantasmagoria, or another software title by Sierra Software, you may receive the following error message:

The file you are trying to open is already in use by another program. Quit the other program, and then try again.

CAUSE

This error message occurs because the installation program for the Sierra Software program attempts to replace the Windows Wininet.dll file with a Sierra version of the file. However, the Wininet.dll file is loaded at Windows startup and cannot be replaced.

RESOLUTION

When you receive the error message, click Cancel. The installation program continues normally, and the program should function correctly after the installation is finished.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
