SYMPTOMS

When you try to run the Scholastic's The Magic School Bus: Explores the Rainforest demonstration on the Windows 98 CD-ROM, you may receive the following error message.

Failed to retrieve initialization data


CAUSE

This error message can occur if you you double-click the Msbrain.exe file in the Cdsample\Demos\Msb\Rain folder on the Windows 98 CD-ROM.


RESOLUTION

Run the game from the Microsoft Interactive CD Sampler tool. To do so, insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, click Interactive CD Sampler on the Microsoft Windows 98 screen, and then follow the instructions on the screen.


MORE INFORMATION

You can run the demonstration only from within Interactive CD Sampler, which initializes the game and puts the correct files in memory.

You can start Interactive CD Sampler manually by double-clicking the Sampler.exe file in the Cdsample folder on the Windows 98 CD-ROM.
