This article describes how to use the Pinball.inf file included with
Windows 98 to install the 3D Pinball game included with Microsoft Plus!
for Windows 95.
Note that the instructions in the Mtsutil.txt file on the Windows 98
CD-ROM for installing 3D Pinball are incorrect. You should use the
instructions in this article instead.

95, use the appropriate steps.
Using Plus! for Windows 95 CD-ROM in CD-ROM Drive D
If you are using the Plus! for Windows 95 CD-ROM in CD-ROM drive D, follow
these steps:
- Locate the Pinball.inf file in the Tools\Mtsutil folder on the
Windows 98 CD-ROM.
- Copy the Pinball.inf file to your hard disk. For information about how
to copy a file, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type
copying files, and then double-click the
"Copying files, folders" topic.
- Remove the Windows 98 CD-ROM and insert the Plus! for Windows 95 CD-ROM
in CD-ROM drive D.
- If you receive a warning message stating that Plus! cannot be removed,
click Cancel.
- Right-click the Pinball.inf file you copied to the hard disk, and then
click Install.
After you follow these steps, you can start 3D Pinball by clicking Start,
pointing to Programs, pointing to Accessories, pointing to Games, and then
clicking Space Cadet Table.
Using Plus! for Windows 95 Floppy Disks or CD-ROM in Drive Other Than D
If you are using the Plus! for Windows 95 floppy disks, or the CD-ROM in
a CD-ROM drive that is not drive D, follow these steps:
- Locate the Pinball.inf file in the Tools\Mtsutil folder on the
Windows 98 CD-ROM.
- Copy the Pinball.inf file to your hard disk. For information about how
to copy a file, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type
copying files, and then double-click the
"Copying files, folders" topic.
- Right-click the Pinball.inf file on the hard disk, click Properties,
click to clear the Read-Only check box, and then click OK.
- Double-click the Pinball.inf file on the hard disk.
- In the [Version] section of the file, locate the following line:
layoutfile = d:\pluslayt.inf
The "d" in this line represents the drive containing the Plus! files.
- Change the line so that it references the drive you are using for the
Plus! disks or CD-ROM.
- On the File menu, click Save, and then quit Notepad.
- Right-click the Pinball.inf file on the hard disk, click Properties,
click to select the Read-Only check box, and then click OK.
- Insert the Plus! for Windows 95 disk or CD-ROM.
- Right-click the Pinball.inf file on the hard disk, and then click
Install. If you are prompted to insert the Plus! for Windows 95 CD-ROM,
click OK.
- When you receive a dialog box stating that the Font.dat file cannot
be found, type the correct drive letter for the drive containing the
Plus! files, and then click OK.
After you follow these steps, you can start 3D Pinball by clicking Start,
pointing to Programs, pointing to Accessories, pointing to Games, and then
clicking Space Cadet Table.
